Elie Mulhem, M.D.
Professor and Chair, Department of Family Medicine and Community HealthDr. Elie Mulhem is a professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health and has been a faculty member at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB) since 2009. He has served on numerous groups and committees for legacy Beaumont and OUWB, including as Chair of the Department Committee on Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure (DCAPT) in Family Medicine and Community Health from 2012 through December 2024. He currently serves as Chief of the Department of Family Medicine at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital.
Nationally active with the Midwest Pain Society, Dr. Mulhem recently served as the society’s president. On an international level, he is an associate editor at The Cochrane Library, where he has authored over 120 Cochrane Clinical Answers. Passionate about education, he enjoys teaching evidence-based medicine and writing EBM review articles. Dr. Mulhem is also heavily involved in research, having received numerous research grants and published extensively on topics such as health equity, population health, and women’s health. He also leads the effort to build a Population Health Research program at the department in collaboration with Corewell Health Research Institute and OUWB Population Health program.
Dr. Mulhem earned his medical degree from the University of Damascus School of Medicine in Damascus, Syria. He completed his residency in family medicine at the University of Minnesota and has been a legacy Beaumont physician for the past 25 years. Over the last decade, he has received several residency teaching awards in addition to awards for research and service excellence.
